Cairo, March 19 (SANA) Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said Thursday, in a statement published on the League’s X platform, that attacks attributed to Iran on a vital gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar constituted a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighborliness.
The statement, cited by League spokesman Jamal Rushdi, said Aboul Gheit also condemned missile and drone attacks targeting Riyadh and the United Arab Emirates. He voiced full solidarity with the Arab Gulf states and backed measures they take to protect their security, citizens and vital facilities.
Rushdi said Aboul Gheit warned that targeting oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region represented a dangerous escalation and a reckless act that cannot be justified under any circumstances, and could further heighten regional tensions.
Ras Laffan Industrial City, located in northeastern Qatar, is the country’s main hub for liquefied natural gas production and export and one of the world’s largest such production centers, was subjected to an Iranian attack, that caused heavy damage at the site.
The developments come amid a broader wave of attacks targeting Gulf states and other countries in the region following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran since Feb. 28.
