Muscat, March 11 (SANA) Omani authorities confirmed on Wednesday that several drones were intercepted and shot down over the southern city of Salalah, while others successfully struck fuel storage facilities at the Port of Salalah. The Oman News Agency (ONA), citing an official security source, reported that the strikes caused significant fires in two fuel tanks, though no human casualties were recorded among port staff or residents.
The competent security services affirmed they are utilizing “all monitoring and response efforts” to counter these “hostile escalations” and ensure the safety of the nation’s strategic infrastructure. This latest incident marks the second major wave of attacks on Omani ports this month, as regional tensions continue to flare following the outbreak of a broader conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel on February 28.
Despite Oman’s long-standing role as a neutral mediator—having facilitated secret nuclear and security talks between Washington and Tehran for years—the Sultanate has not been spared from the current cycle of Iranian retaliation. Previous attacks on March 1 and March 3 targeted the Port of Duqm, where one foreign worker was injured and several fuel tanks were damaged.
