Damage to residential areas in Dilling following the heavy artillery shelling reported by the Doctors Network.

Khartoum, March 11 (SANA) At least 40 people were killed in Sudan on Tuesday following a drone strike on a small truck transporting dozens of mourners to a funeral in the southern part of the country. A Sudanese medical source confirmed on Wednesday that the majority of the victims were women.

The attack targeted the vehicle while it was traveling on the road between Abu Zabad and al-Foula cities. The victims were reportedly on their way to al-Foula to offer condolences, leading to the tragic loss of multiple members of the same families in a single strike.

This massacre followed another deadly incident in the same region. The Sudan Doctors Network reported that seven people, including a child, were killed and 13 others injured by artillery shelling on the city of Dilling in South Kordofan. The network attributed the shelling to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, which began in mid-April 2023, continues to devastate the nation. Political efforts to reach a resolution remain deadlocked, while the humanitarian crisis reaches unprecedented levels. Tens of thousands have been killed, millions displaced, and famine has taken hold in several regions across the country.
