Kyiv, March 10 (SANA) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv has deployed air defense experts to several Middle Eastern countries following Iranian attacks targeting the region.
In an interview with The New York Times, Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian specialists had been sent to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates to assist with air defense efforts.
He added that Ukraine also dispatched drone specialists and interceptor drone technology to Jordan to help protect U.S. bases there.
Zelenskyy noted that the United States requested assistance last Thursday and that the Ukrainian team departed the following day, with arrival in the Middle East expected soon.
According to the Ukrainian president, additional Ukrainian drone experts are expected to arrive in the region next week to help counter Iranian drones. In return, Kyiv hopes to obtain U.S.-made air defense missiles to strengthen its own defensive capabilities.
Asked how Ukraine would assist the United States and its Gulf allies in countering drones, Zelenskyy said it was still too early to provide further details.
Speaking at a press conference following a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian experts would assess the situation once on the ground and provide support, adding that Kyiv hopes the cooperation will benefit both sides.
Iran has launched missiles and drones targeting what it describes as U.S. interests in Gulf countries, Iraq and Jordan in response to the war launched against it by the United States and Israel late last month.
