Beirut, March 7 (SANA) Dozens of people were killed and wounded on Saturday as Israeli airstrikes targeted the town of Nabi Chit in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, following a landing operation in the surrounding mountains. The strikes also hit several towns across southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes and helicopters carried out multiple raids on Nabi Chit to prevent the Israeli force that had landed from being captured after clashes with Hezbollah fighters and local residents.
The clashes and airstrikes claimed the lives of 15 residents of Nabi Chit, three Lebanese army soldiers, one member of the General Security Directorate, nine residents of Khraibeh, one resident of Serein, and one resident of Ali al-Nahri. Earlier reports indicated 12 deaths and 33 injuries in Nabi Chit alone.
In the southern town of Jebchit, Israeli airstrikes struck a house and the town square, killing six civilians, including four members of the same family, and causing widespread damage.
Other towns in southern Lebanon, including Kawthariyat al-Ruz, Ansar, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Kfar Tibnit, Bint Jbeil, the outskirts of Zibqin, al-Dhahirah, and Yaroun, were also targeted, resulting in deaths, injuries, and significant destruction of homes and businesses.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported on Friday that the death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon since last Monday has reached at least 222, with hundreds more injured.
