Beirut, March 6 (SANA) The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that eight people were killed and several others injured in Israeli airstrikes on Sidon and the Baalbek district, marking a dangerous escalation in southern Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese National News Agency, five civilians died and seven were wounded when an Israeli airstrike targeted Sidon. In Baalbek, an airstrike on a house in Saida town killed three people and injured two others.
Earlier attacks in the Nabatieh district struck the towns of Kfar Tebnit, Jebchit, and Toul, killing three more people and destroying two houses and a mosque. Heavy airstrikes also hit the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeting a Hezbollah headquarters, ten high-rise buildings containing military infrastructure, a drone depot, and Hezbollah’s executive council headquarters.
In response, Hezbollah fired missiles at Israeli positions and warned residents of settlements within 5 kilometers of the border to evacuate immediately. Israeli forces had earlier demanded the evacuation of Beirut’s southern suburbs and issued warnings for over 53 villages in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.
The escalation began Monday after Hezbollah launched several missile strikes on Israeli positions, prompting a series of Israeli air operations across southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs. The violence has so far caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries, raising fears of further instability in the region.
