Washington, March 4 (SANA) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces have struck nearly 2,000 targets in Iran as part of a large-scale military operation described as the most extensive in the Middle East since the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
In a video message posted Tuesday on the platform X, Admiral Brad Cooper said U.S. forces had used more than 2,000 munitions to hit Iranian targets.
“We have significantly weakened Iran’s air defenses and destroyed hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles, their launchers, and unmanned aerial vehicles,” Cooper said.
He added that the volume of strikes carried out during the first 24 hours of the operation was roughly twice the scale of the first day of the 2003 ‘shock and awe’ campaign in Iraq.
According to Cooper, U.S. forces continue to conduct strikes against Iranian targets around the clock.
CENTCOM is responsible for U.S. military planning and operations across a strategic region that includes 21 countries in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, as well as surrounding waterways.
