UK sends warship and helicopters to Cyprus after drone attack

London, Mar. 3 (SANA) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday the deployment of a warship and combat helicopters to protect the UK military bases in Cyprus following an attack on one of the facilities by an Iranian drone.

Starmer said in a post on X that the UK is fully committed to the security of Cyprus and its personnel, and that helicopters with counter-drone capabilities and HMS Dragon will be deployed to the region, stressing that the UK will act in the interest of itself and its allies.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides had revealed on Monday that the Akrotiri Air Base, operated by the Royal Air Force, was struck by an Iranian drone overnight, causing minor material damage.
