Amman, March 1 (SANA) Jordan’s King Abdullah II held a series of phone calls with Arab and foreign leaders to discuss escalating regional tensions amid ongoing exchanges of attacks between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
According to Jordan’s state news agency Petra, King Abdullah spoke Saturday evening with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The two leaders condemned Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Qatar and other Arab countries and called for an immediate halt to the escalation. They stressed the need to pursue dialogue and diplomatic efforts to restore stability and prevent further tensions.
In a separate call with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, both leaders condemned attacks on their countries and other Arab states, describing them as violations of international law.
King Abdullah also spoke with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders denounced attacks on Jordan, the UAE and other Arab states, calling them a serious escalation.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke with King Abdullah on Saturday, and both sides underscored the importance of intensifying international efforts to de-escalate and resolve tensions through diplomatic channels. Merz expressed Germany’s solidarity with Jordan and readiness to provide support.
Since Saturday, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait have reported Iranian missile and drone attacks, resulting in civilian injuries and material damage. The attacks are in response to U.S.-Israeli joint strikes on Iran.
