Cairo, Feb. 12 (SANA) The Arab League has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to take steps to prevent Israel from annexing parts of the West Bank, urging Washington to honor commitments made to Arab and Islamic countries in pursuit of regional peace and stability.
The call was made during an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council held Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters in Cairo, according to Egypt’s Al-Ahram news portal. The meeting, chaired by the United Arab Emirates, was convened at the request of the Palestinian Authority to discuss regional and international responses to recent Israeli decisions concerning the West Bank.
In a statement, the council reaffirmed Arab support for Palestinian rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The council criticized recent Israeli measures that could advance annexation plans and expand settlement activity in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It also expressed concern over policies involving home demolitions and land confiscations.
In recent days, Israeli authorities have issued decisions affecting land administration in the West Bank. Palestinian officials say the measures violate international law and could facilitate further settlement expansion and potential annexation.
