Belgium condemns Israeli measures to tighten control over West Bank

Occupied Jerusalem, Feb.11 (SANA) Belgium has condemned measures announced by Israeli authorities aimed at strengthening their control over the West Bank, as clear violation of international law and a setback to peace efforts.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot said on Wednesday that the steps run counter to Israel’s international obligations, stressing the need to respect international law and relevant UN resolutions.

Prévot described the Israeli measures as unlawful, noting that they contradict UN Security Council Resolution 2334 as well as the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice.

Belgium’s position comes amid growing European criticism of Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly with regard to settlement expansion and actions seen as imposing new realities on the ground.
