Palestinian Prisoners’ Office warns of Israel’s move to implement execution law

Occupied Jerusalem, Feb.09 (SANA) – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office warned that Israel’s accelerated preparations to implement a law permitting the execution of Palestinian detainees represent a dangerous escalation that threatens prisoners’ lives and rights.

In a statement carried by Palestinian media, the office cited reports aired by Israel’s Channel 13 indicating plans to establish a dedicated execution facility, develop operational procedures, train specialized personnel and draw on foreign models. It said these steps point to a “crime of extermination” against Palestinian prisoners.

The office said pushing the bill toward final approval constitutes a grave shift in Israel’s system of repression, aimed at legitimizing killing under a systematic policy that already includes medical neglect, solitary confinement and ongoing abuse inside prisons.

Holding the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of what it called this escalation, the office urged international human rights organizations and relevant international bodies to take immediate action to halt what it described as a dangerous path that threatens the lives of thousands of detainees and opens the door to a more violent phase.

The Knesset passed the bill in its first reading on Nov. 4, 2025. Similar proposals have been introduced repeatedly over the past decade, most recently in 2022, when far-right minister Itamar Ben-Gvir reintroduced the measure with amendments. The bill received preliminary approval in March 2023.
