Occupied Jerusalem, Jan. 29 (SANA) A United Nations special rapporteur has called on countries to suspend their relations with Israel until it complies with international law, saying the move could help pave the way toward peace.
Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, said in a post on X that Israel has no legal authority to block humanitarian organizations and aid workers from entering the Gaza Strip and other occupied territories. She described Israel’s occupation as “illegal and must end without conditions.”
Albanese also said Israel continues to prevent the entry of Olga Cherevko, a spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), into Gaza. OCHA has described the move as part of ongoing restrictions on the work of international humanitarian organizations.
Her comments came as nine European countries, along with Canada and Japan, called on Israeli authorities to open border crossings and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza. In a joint statement, the countries said the humanitarian situation in the territory remains catastrophic and that current aid supplies fall far short of meeting basic needs.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed since a ceasefire announced on Oct. 10, 2025, which it says has been repeatedly violated. Israeli authorities have also continued to restrict the entry of food, medicine and essential medical supplies into the enclave, the ministry said.
