Syrian Education Minister addresses UNESCO session on knowledge and peace

Syria’s Minister of Education Mohammad Abdulrahman Turko affirmed that Syria extends its hand to the entire world, emphasizing that “partnership in knowledge represents the highest form of peace in building individuals and societies,” during his address to the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Tuesday.

Delivering Syria’s statement, Minister Turko said the Ministry of Education has developed a comprehensive national strategy based on three main pillars aimed at advancing the education sector in line with current circumstances and modern educational transformations.

Turko underlined that investment in education is a cornerstone of sustainable development, emphasizing that rebuilding education contributes directly to social resilience and national recovery.

He also praised the constructive cooperation with UNESCO in the rehabilitation of cultural and educational facilities, describing it as “a reflection of the shared commitment to preserving cultural identity and protecting human heritage, which form part of the memory and civilization of nations.”

The 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference began on October 30 with the participation of 194 member states, marking the first time in nearly forty years that the event has been held outside Paris. The session will continue until November 13 and will review UNESCO’s work and the implementation of decisions adopted by its Executive Board.
