The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has described the war on the Gaza Strip over the past two years as “genocide” against the Palestinian people. He criticized the international community for failing to intervene and stop the Israeli military attacks.
In a speech on Tuesday at the opening session of the Qatari Shura Council in Doha, Emir Tamim reiterated Qatar’s strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing violations, particularly the transformation of Gaza into an uninhabitable region.
He also denounced Israel’s continued violations of ceasefire agreements, the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, and efforts to alter the status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Emir called on the international community to protect the Palestinian people and ensure that those responsible for genocide are held accountable.
Emir Tamim praised the international solidarity with Palestinians, particularly the recognition of the State of Palestine by more than 130 countries. He expressed hope that this would help accelerate Palestine’s pursuit of full UN membership and lead to an end to the occupation.
The Emir also noted that Qatar had faced sovereignty violations from both Iran and Israel, but emerged from these challenges stronger and more resilient.
He characterized Israel’s actions as “state terrorism” and pointed out that the global response had been so strong that it left those responsible shocked.
