UN Security Council renews support to Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity

New York-SANA-The members of the Security Council expressed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, in line with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

In a press statement issued coinciding with the emergency meeting on the situation in the Middle East, the council condemned the recent strikes in Doha on Tuesday, without explicitly naming Israel, expressed deep regret over the loss of civilian life, and stressed the importance of de-escalation in the region.

In the statement, the members of the Security Council assured their support of the vital role Qatar plays in mediation efforts in the region and regarding the war on the Gaza Strip, alongside Egypt and the United States of America.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, who participated in the emergency session of the Security Council under the title “The Situation in the Middle East,” assured that the Israeli escalation in targeting residential premises in Doha is highly dangerous and is a threat to regional peace and security, and discussing this issue is in the core of the Security Council’s mandate under the UN Charter.

Qatar News Agency (QNA) quoted Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, after the Security Council session, stating that the Council session discussed the Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar, explaining that the statements of the 15 member states supported the State of Qatar’s clear and legal position.
