1,411 dead, 3,124 injured in Kunar earthquake in Afghanistan

Kabul,SANA – The death toll from the earthquake that struck Kunar province in northeastern Afghanistan a few days ago, has risen to 1,411 dead and 3,124 injured, in addition to the destruction of thousands of homes across vast areas, according to a new toll announced by Afghan authorities last night.

Afghan Bakhtar News Agency quoted the province’s deputy spokesman, Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, as saying: “Rescue operations are still ongoing in all affected areas, and commando forces have been airdropped to reach rugged areas and rescue those trapped under the rubble.”

Syria affirmed its full solidarity with friendly Afghanistan, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, offered before yesterday its sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the Afghan leadership and people and to the families of the victims.
