UNICEF: Children in Gaza dying at “unprecedented rate”

New York, SANA-The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said that Gaza has crossed the threshold of famine, and its children are dying at an “unprecedented” rate due to the systematic starvation pursued by the Israeli occupation forces.

According to the international organization’s website , UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban, said during a press briefing on his recent trip Gaza : “the signs of profound suffering and hunger are evident on faces of Gaza’s people and the malnutrition index has exceeded the famine threshold, with one in three people in Gaza spending days without any food.

Chaiban stressed that more than 18,000 children have been killed in Gaza since the onset of the Israeli war in October 2023 and more than 320,000 young children are at risk of acute malnutrition, warning that international choices made in this regard will determine “whether tens of thousands of children live or die.”
