Geneva, March 22 (SANA) A drone attack on a hospital in Sudan’s East Darfur state killed at least 64 people and injured dozens, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X that the agency had verified an attack on al-Dhaein Teaching Hospital, located in the state capital.

He said the victims included 13 children, a doctor, two nurses and several patients.

Tedros added that more than 2,000 people have been killed in attacks on health facilities since the conflict in Sudan began, with over 720 injured in 213 incidents targeting healthcare infrastructure.

He called for the protection of civilians and medical and humanitarian workers.

Fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has continued since mid-April 2023, with diplomatic efforts to end the conflict stalled.

The war has triggered a deepening humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands reported killed, millions displaced and famine conditions spreading in parts of the country.
