Syria, Italy discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the health sector

Damascus, SANA – Health Minister Musab al-Ali discussed Wednesday with an Italian delegation headed by the Minister Plenipotentiary, Central Director for Cooperation at the Italian Foreign Ministry, Carlo Batory, and his accompanying delegation, ways to enhance health cooperation.

Minister al-Ali clarified during the meeting that the health sector in Syria is in dire need of rehabilitation and restoration as a result of the complete or partial destruction that has befallen many hospitals over the past years, in addition to the obsolescence of medical devices and their exceeding their operational life, pointing to the need for modern equipment that is compatible with digital transformation and technology.

Minister al-Ali called on the Italian delegation to visit hospitals to assess their needs and determine priorities, pointing out that there is a shortage of ambulances, some quality medicines, and anesthesia machines.

He stressed the existence of good investment opportunities in Syria after liberation, such as building modern hospitals targeting medical tourism, in addition to investing in pharmaceutical industries.

The Italian delegation emphasized that support will not be limited to the current phase but will continue into the future to include rehabilitating infrastructure, rebuilding health facilities, supplying hospitals with medicines, and sending medical delegations to exchange expertise between the two countries.
