Syrian doctors from Germany perform free heart surgeries in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA- A team of Syrian physicians based in Germany has launched the 2nd phase of “Our Pulse 1” campaign at Hospital for Cardiology & Heart Surgery in Lattakia.

The initiative offers specialized, life-saving heart surgeries free of charge to patients in greatest need.

The campaign is organized by Syrian-German Medical Association (SGMA), and comprises about 65 specialist doctors arrived from Germany, bringing advanced medical equipment in a voluntary initiative aims at supporting health sector.

The consultant cardiac surgeon and member of Syrian-German Medical Association (SGMA), Dr. Ayman Souda, told SANA that the association’s surgery staff has been in Syria for ten days, as they began their tour at Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Mashrou Dummar, Damascus, then headed to Medical Center Hospital in Hama and finally they finish their tour Monday at Cardiac Surgery Hospital in Lattakia.

Souda added that selecting the patients is based on criteria of urgent medical need, and from various segments of society without any financial burden on them, stressing that the association covers all the costs of the operations.

He went on saying that medical staff at every medical center they toured, noticed the high level of cooperation and professionalism of the Syrian cadres.

A number of resident physicians in cardiac surgery Hospitals underlined the importance of this initiative as it achieves a dual benefit through meeting the needs of patients who do not have the financial ability to undergo the surgery, in addition to developing expertise of Syrian doctors who have long been cut off from keeping up with scientific and precise surgical developments in this field.
