Raqqa, Jan.25 (SANA) Residents of Raqqa have reported a significant deterioration in basic services and infrastructure in their city during the period of control by the (SDF) organization, attributing the decline to neglect, poor management, and the misappropriation of local resources.
Local residents told SANA that road across the city and surrounding areas are heavily damaged, while water, electricity and sewage networks suffer from widespread deterioration, significantly affecting daily life and mobility.
Several residents pointed out to the continued neglect of the main highway linking Raqqa to Deir Ezzor, saying the road has remained in poor condition for more than a decade, causing frequent vehicle damage and increasing transportation costs. Power and water outages have also been frequent, they said, alongside rising prices for basic goods, particularly in the town of Mansoura in western Raqqa.
According to residents, the SDF neglected public facilities and diverted local resources toward constructing tunnels and military infrastructure, instead of improving services and rehabilitating damaged facilities, further aggravating living conditions.
They called for urgent repairs and comprehensive rehabilitation of infrastructure to restore stability and improve basic services.
Following the Syrian Arab Army’s control over Raqqa, Syrian officials have carried out field visits across the province to assess damage and prepare emergency plans aimed at improving services and alleviating residents’ hardship.
