Damascus, March 2 (SANA) Syria’s education minister met Azerbaijan’s chargé d’affaires in Damascus on Monday to discuss expanding cooperation in vocational and technical education, as part of a broader partnership aimed at rebuilding Syria’s education sector.
Education Minister Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko and Azerbaijani diplomat Alnur Shah Husseinov reviewed plans to begin implementing a tripartite agreement signed last month in Morocco between Syria’s Ministry of Education, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
The agreement provides for the rehabilitation of 100 schools and the construction of 10 new schools built to modern standards, with a total budget of $30 million, according to Syria’s Education Ministry.
Turko said strengthening vocational and technical training was critical to equipping young Syrians with skills aligned with labor market needs.
Husseinov expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to provide expertise and technical support to help expand vocational education as part of Syria’s recovery efforts.
The partnership agreement was signed on Feb. 17 at ICESCO headquarters in Rabat.
