Minister of Oil : there is no sense in maintaining the sanctions imposed on Syria after overthrowing of the defunct regime

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ghiath Diab said that the oil sector in Syria is suffering after the overthrow of the former regime from several difficulties and challenges as constitute an obstacle in securing oil derivatives.

“The biggest and most prominent of these obstacles is that a number of oil wells are still outside the administration of the Syrian state, which increases the suffering of the people” Diab added in a press statement.

Diab pointed out that it makes no sense for the sanctions imposed on Syria to remain after overthrowing of the defunct regime and its allies, as it depended on its allies to supply oil, and was not affected by those sanctions as the new Syria is affected today.

Diab stressed that the continued imposition of sanctions on the Syrian people after the overthrow of the defunct Al-assad regime causes a state of scarcity and instability, as the sanctions cause the cessation of maritime oil imports.
