ِDamascus, Oct. 6 (SANA) Governor of the Central Bank of Syria Mohammad Safwat Raslan and Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE Khaled Mohamed Balama signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in financial, supervisory and technical areas of mutual interest.
In statement to SANA, Raslan said the memorandum represents an important opportunity to promote financial inclusion, build institutional capacity and enhance the efficiency of regulatory and supervisory frameworks, supporting the development of Syria’s banking sector and strengthening its ability to keep pace with regional and international banking requirements and practices.
“We seek to make this memorandum a foundation for practical and sustainable areas of cooperation and to open broader prospects for banking partnerships between the two countries,” Raslan added.
The MoU covers payment systems, monetary policies, financial technologies, sustainable finance, financial inclusion and consumer protection.
The agreement aims to support the development of the banking sector, enhance its efficiency and help it keep pace with regional and international requirements and developments.
The MoU represents a new step toward expanding banking cooperation between Syria and the UAE.
Raslan chaired on Sept. 29 the 50th session of the Council of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Agencies Governors, held in Abu Dhabi with the participation of Arab monetary and banking leaders to discuss and advance financial issues in the region. He is serving as the council’s chair for 2026.
