New York, Sept. 10 (SANA) U.S. stock futures edged higher Thursday as investors awaited wholesale inflation data, while elevated Treasury yields and oil prices above $100 remained in focus.
Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 174 points, or 0.33%, while S&P 500 futures gained 0.18%. Nasdaq-100 futures were marginally lower, CNBC reported.
The moves followed a third consecutive session of losses for major Wall Street indexes. The Dow fell more than 400 points, or 0.8%, Wednesday, while the S&P 500 lost 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.6%.
U.S. Treasury yields remained a source of pressure after the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note climbed to 4.857%, its highest level since November 2023.
Oil prices also weighed on market sentiment amid escalating U.S.-Iran tensions and concerns over energy supplies. Brent crude settled 3.4% higher at $101.21 a barrel Wednesday, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude gained 3.3% to $96.05.
Investors are awaiting the August producer price index, a measure of wholesale inflation, due Thursday. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expect a 0.3% monthly increase and a 5.3% rise from a year earlier.
The closely watched consumer price index is due Friday, with economists forecasting a 0.4% monthly increase and a 3.4% year-on-year rise. Weekly initial jobless claims and August existing home sales are also due Thursday.
Asian markets were mixed Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.2%, while South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.25%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 1.23% in late trading, mainland China’s CSI 300 lost 0.53% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell more than 1%.
