Singapore, Sept. 2 (SANA) Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remained sharply below recent levels on Tuesday, with just four commodity-carrying vessels transiting the key waterway compared with a 10-day average of about 13, according to ship-tracking firm Kpler.
The figure was also down from 10 vessels on Monday, Kpler data cited by Reuters showed.
The four vessels included a very large crude carrier, a Panamax vessel, a Kamsarmax vessel and a medium-sized tanker. Three were leaving the strait and one was entering.
Kpler cautioned that the figures could change because some vessels switch off their transponders during voyages.
Traffic through the Bab al-Mandab Strait was also below recent averages. Kpler recorded 18 commodity-carrying vessels crossing the waterway Tuesday, compared with a 10-day average of about 24.
Seven vessels entered Bab al-Mandab and 11 exited, with the traffic including two Aframax oil tankers and a Suezmax tanker.
Many vessels have been avoiding the Strait of Hormuz amid attacks on shipping in the region. Maritime risk management firm Marisks and Kpler said Tuesday that unidentified projectiles struck two very large crude carriers carrying Saudi oil within minutes of each other as they transited the strait late Monday.
