Damascus, April 26 (SANA) Syria’s Agriculture Minister Amjad Badr met Jordan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Khalil al-Haj Tawfiq on Sunday to discuss ways to expand agricultural cooperation and investment between the two countries.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring opportunities in food production and trade.
Badr highlighted Syria’s significant agricultural resources and diverse production, saying the ministry is preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding with its Jordanian counterpart and form joint working teams to boost cooperation.
He said the Syrian government is encouraging investment in agriculture and related industries, including food processing and marketing, and is working to create a supportive environment for new projects.
Al-Haj Tawfiq stressed the importance of expanding private-sector partnerships and called for regular meetings and the establishment of a joint council. He said Jordan is ready to support Syria’s agricultural sector and highlighted opportunities for greater trade, noting that Jordan imports a large share of its food needs.
He added that Syria’s proximity and diverse agricultural output could support increased trade exchange and integration.
