Geneva, May 2 (SANA) The United Nations’ Communications Agency condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted communications infrastructure in four Arab countries, and ordered monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the effects of these attacks.
The six Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in addition to Jordan, called on the United Nations International Telecommunication Union to take urgent action, and these countries submitted a draft resolution on the impact of these attacks on civilian ICT infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE and Jordan.
A spokeswoman for the ITU Council told AFP that the Council considered the draft resolution and adopted it unanimously. Accordingly, it tasked the ITU Secretariat with monitoring and assessing the specific impacts of these attacks in the countries and reporting thereon, as well as their broader implications for regional and global communications.
The International Telecommunication Union, headquartered in Geneva, was founded in 1865 to manage international telegraph networks, and later expanded its scope to include modern technologies such as telephones, radio, television, satellites, mobile phones, and the Internet.
