Damascus, April 29 (SANA) Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh discussed with a delegation from ODI Global ways to integrate climate risk management into economic and financial policies and enhance technical cooperation.
The Ministry of Finance said in a statement on its Telegram channel that discussions focused on incorporating climate change risks into economic, financial and investment decisions as a core component of policy frameworks.
Barnieh said the ministry is developing a comprehensive long-term financial strategy that includes climate finance, alongside plans to establish a specialized unit.
He stressed the importance of raising awareness and organizing specialized workshops to build national capacities, highlighting coordination with the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment.
The minister also pointed to preparations for a joint workshop on applying environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards in public financial management. He added that efforts are under way to enhance cooperation, including the development of carbon certificate markets in Syria.
Separately, Deputy Minister of Energy for Planning and Institutional Excellence Ibrahim Al-Adhan met with an ODI Global delegation to prepare for a national workshop on climate risks scheduled for next week.
ODI Global is an international research institution based in the United Kingdom specializing in sustainable development, climate finance and economic policy, providing analysis and advisory support to governments and international organizations.
