Latakia, May 15 (SANA) Syrian Civil Defense firefighting teams extinguished a large fire that broke out late Thursday in several commercial shops in the industrial area of Latakia, after intensive operations that lasted around an hour and a half.
The fire was fully contained and prevented from spreading to nearby properties, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.
Abdul Kafi Kayyal, director of the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Latakia, said in a statement to SANA that the response room received a report at 10:18 p.m. about a fire inside shops containing agricultural equipment, machinery and spare parts.
He said three firefighting teams were initially dispatched to the scene before additional support units were called in, bringing the total number of participating teams to more than six.
Kayyal confirmed that the damage was limited to material losses, adding that cooling operations continued at the site to prevent the fire from reigniting.
In a related statement, station team leader Mohammad Issa said firefighters moved immediately after receiving the report and found that the blaze had been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Issa added that emergency electricity crews were contacted to cut power to the area before direct firefighting operations began, a step that helped teams accelerate efforts to contain and fully extinguish the fire.
