Washington, April 14 (SANA) Syrian Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh and Central Bank Governor Abdulkader Husarieh took part in a dialogue session in Washington focused on Syria’s economic developments and ongoing reform efforts.
The session, co-hosted by the Middle East Institute (MEI) and the U.S.-Syria Business Council (USSYBC), brought together business leaders and stakeholders from both countries to discuss Syria’s economic outlook in 2026 and prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
According to organizers, participants reviewed key regional and global challenges and discussed steps to improve transparency and stability in Syria’s investment environment, including efforts to modernize legal and regulatory frameworks.
In a post on Facebook, Barnieh said he outlined Syria’s efforts to strengthen financial infrastructure, support sustainable growth and gradually reintegrate into the global economy. He also pointed to early signs of improved financial performance and ongoing modernization of the banking sector.
The discussions also addressed progress in reconnecting Syria to the global financial system and facilitating financial flows to support trade, remittances and private sector activity.
Barnieh said such dialogue reflects a commitment to advancing economic recovery, building trust and expanding cooperation, adding that it could help pave the way for broader engagement in support of Syria’s development.
