US allows temporary sale of stranded Russian oil to India

Washington, March 6 (SANA) The United States on Thursday temporarily eased sanctions on Russia to allow the sale of Russian oil currently stranded at sea to India.

According to AFP, the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a license permitting the delivery and sale of Russian-origin crude oil and petroleum products. The authorization applies to oil loaded on vessels as of March 5 and allows related transactions, including those involving previously sanctioned ships, until April 3, 2026.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move aims to ensure the continued flow of oil to global markets and ease pressure on energy supplies. He stressed that the measure applies only to oil already stranded at sea.
