Commercial Bank of Syria resumes operations in Idlib after decade-long hiatus

Idlib, Feb. 23 (SANA) Governor of Idlib, Mohammad Abdul Rahman, inaugurated the Idlib branch of the Commercial Bank of Syria on Monday, marking a strategic step toward strengthening the provincial banking sector and alleviating financial burdens on citizens.

In a statement to SANA, Abdul Rahman emphasized that the reopening of the bank is a milestone in improving public financial services. He underscored that the move reflects the local administration’s dedication to meeting citizens’ needs and providing practical solutions that contribute to economic stability and the easing of living pressures.

The Governor noted that the bank’s return falls within the framework of ongoing efforts to modernize basic services and facilitate financial and commercial transactions.

For his part, Iyad Bilal, Director of the Commercial Bank of Syria, stated that the branch’s reopening—following a cessation of more than ten years—was the result of coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Finance and provincial authorities. He explained that the branch will facilitate essential banking services, including current accounts, domestic transfers, and foreign relations operations, such as opening letters of credit and issuing bank guarantees and loans.

This step aims to eliminate the need for citizens and retirees to travel long distances between provinces to conduct their financial affairs, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the local economic infrastructure.
