UN-backed program in Istanbul targets challenges facing Syrian entrepreneurs
“Work and Investment in Syria After Liberation – A Realistic Reading of the Post-War Economy” - SANA

Istanbul, Feb. 11 (SANA) A program aimed at inquiring Syrian business owners and developing practical solutions to challenges facing their enterprises was launched in Istanbul on Wednesday under the theme “Work and Investment in Syria After Liberation – A Realistic Reading of the Post-War Economy”, bringing together a group of Syrian entrepreneurs in partnership with the SURIAD Organization and the Syrian Dialogue Center, with support from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The initiative seeks to engage directly with Syrian business owners through two main tracks. The first focuses on assessing their future plans, including whether they intend to remain in Türkiye or return to Syria, while the second examines obstacles hindering their activities and works toward formulating realistic development-oriented responses.

Organizers said the findings will be translated into recommendations to be shared with relevant authorities in both Türkiye and Syria, with the aim of improving the business climate and supporting the sustainability of enterprises run by Syrian entrepreneurs.

They added that the program forms part of broader efforts to strengthen economic resilience and contribute to long-term stability by enabling business owners to expand operations and participate in reconstruction and development.

The Syrian Businessmen Association (SURIAD) is a non-profit organization aiming to establish a communication platform and cooperation among Syrian businessmen in Türkiye to provide the best services to association members. It also aims to enhance cooperation and economic development between the two countries, while the Syrian Dialog Center is a Syrian civil institution that aims to reviving and empowering dialogue over the issues that affect the Syrian people. It aims to strengthen relations and empower cooperation and coordination between Syrians.
