Damascus, Sept. 2 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa and his wife, Latifa al-Droubi, met families of missing persons at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the presence of Mohammad Reda Jalkhi, head of the National Commission forMissing Persons.
Al-Sharaa and al-Droubi listened to the families’ testimonies and experiences. The president said the issue of missing persons was a national responsibility and pledged continued efforts to search for those missing and determine their fate, while supporting the work of the National Authority for Missing Persons.
The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a Syrian-sponsored resolution on Monday designating Dec. 19 of each year as an international day honoring women searching for missing persons.
Syria welcomed the resolution, saying the initiative recognizes the struggle of women who have devoted themselves to searching for their missing loved ones while upholding their right to truth, justice and guarantees of non-recurrence.
