Damascus, Jan. 15 (SANA) Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yasser Barnieh discussed on Wednesday with Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two ministries, with a focus on supporting development projects, during a virtual meeting.

According to a post by Barnieh on his official Facebook page, the talks reviewed recent economic and financial developments and outlined the programs and strategy of Syria’s Ministry of Finance, with emphasis on benefiting from the Saudi experience in public finance reform, financial sector development, capacity building and knowledge transfer.
Barnieh said the Saudi side showed strong interest in providing various forms of support, expressing appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s efforts and for Al-Jadaan’s personal support for Syria at international economic and financial forums.
The discussions also covered proposed support through the Saudi Fund for Development to finance a number of development projects in Syria, as well as opportunities to expand cooperation to attract financing and technical assistance from other Arab and regional funds.
The Syrian finance minister welcomed the invitation extended to Syria to participate in Al-Ula Conference on Emerging Economies, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia next February, stressing the importance of the event in strengthening Syria’s presence at regional and international economic gatherings.
Earlier this month, Barnieh held talks with a delegation from the Saudi Fund for Development, headed by its CEO Sultan bin Abdul Rahman Al-Murshid, on financing priority projects for the Syrian government.
