Syria and Jordan Explore Enhancing Transport Cooperation Amid Increasing Trade

The joint Syrian-Jordanian technical committee for land transport met Tuesday in Damascus to discuss ways to improve cooperation in the transport sector, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport.

The meeting focused on enhancing passenger and freight transport systems, addressing the challenges of cross-border movement, and exploring opportunities to boost cooperation in the railway sector. These talks aim to streamline transport flows and promote trade between the two sides, the statement added.

Trade between Jordan and Syria has surged, with commercial exchange increasing by approximately 390% during the first eight months of 2025.

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Jordanian exports to Syria reached 152 million dinars, up from 31 million dinars during the same period in 2024. Jordan’s imports from Syria totaled 68 million dinars, a 100% increase from 34 million dinars in the same period last year.

The meetings are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Syria and Jordan. The goal is to enhance integration in the land transport sector, promote economic openness, and facilitate the movement of people and goods between the two countries.
