Damascus Countryside, SANA – The Directorate of Digital Economy, recently created within Syria’s Ministry of Economy and Industry, is using the 62nd Damascus International Fair to highlight its vision of a technology-driven economic transformation.
The pavilion drew considerable attention from visitors and investors, who expressed readiness to pursue partnerships and memorandums of understanding in digitalization and modern technologies, signaling growing confidence in Syria’s ability to engage in global tech trends.
Directorate chief Safwan Awf told SANA the pavilion presents a range of digital services and investment opportunities, including the digitization of ministries and public institutions into integrated electronic systems. Other initiatives include developing databases of factories and companies for investors, preparing to launch online licensing services, and supporting collaborative digital projects.

Awf said the directorate’s mandate goes beyond developing applications and raising digital awareness. It also includes drafting laws and regulations inspired by international models to expand GDP, create jobs, empower women through remote work, and facilitate digital and commercial transactions to strengthen the Syrian economy.
Key initiatives under review include boosting local commerce through e-marketing of Syrian products, linking them to global platforms to stimulate exports, and adopting blockchain to secure data, develop smart contracts, and expand e-archiving systems. The directorate is also exploring digital currency platforms, mining projects, and fintech innovations to enable flexible exchanges with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
Awf concluded that the Directorate of Digital Economy represents a bridge between digital transformation and the knowledge economy, designed to build a renewed economic system that leverages modern technology to drive Syria’s comprehensive development.
