Damascus, Sept. 21 (SANA) A Damascus exhibition featuring 27 works by Syrian artist Majed Sabouni traces the evolution of his decades-long career across abstraction, nature and the human figure.
The exhibition at Zawaya Fine Arts Gallery brings together works from different periods, highlighting changes in Sabouni’s use of color, form and subject matter.
Sabouni told SANA that his work has moved across different styles and schools over the years. He described painting as a continuing process of discovery, with each work developing gradually through brushwork and layers of color rather than following a predetermined plan.
The search for new forms of expression, he said, has remained a constant throughout his career.
Mohammad Sobhi al-Sayed Yahya, head of the Syrian Fine Artists Union, described Sabouni as an established figure in Syrian visual art whose work has left a mark on the country’s art scene.
Syrian artist Adnan Hamida said Sabouni’s work has also addressed human themes, including displacement, and helped strengthen connections between generations of Syrian artists.
Born in Hama in 1944, Sabouni graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University and has remained active in Syria’s visual arts scene for decades.
