Hasakah, April 27 (SANA) Syria’s Grain Establishment has begun rehabilitation work on a number of grain silos as part of ongoing preparations for the 2026 wheat season.
The move aims to ensure the capacity to receive crops from farmers and to support the country’s strategic grain reserves.
Abdelhamid Dawoud, head of the Establishment’s branch in Hasakah, said the current plan includes maintenance of key silos in rural areas, notably Tal Alo, Tal Hamis and Sabah al-Khair, to improve their operational readiness ahead of the procurement season.
He said the work covers both mechanical and electrical systems, including maintenance of equipment, repair of faults and upgrading of operating and control systems to ensure efficiency and continuity during the season.
Dawoud added that the rehabilitation efforts are designed to restore the silos to full capacity, enabling them to handle the expected wheat quantities during the purchasing period.
He stressed the importance of the work in strengthening food security and expanding storage capacity, particularly amid indicators of a strong harvest this year.
The total area planted with wheat in Hasakah this season is estimated at around 463,000 hectares of irrigated and rain-fed land, with projections pointing to a high yield that would support the country’s grain reserves.
