Damascus, June 8 (SANA) A charity bazaar featuring local artisans, charitable organizations, artists and small business owners opened in Damascus on Sunday, highlighting community-led initiatives aimed at supporting productive families and promoting local craftsmanship.
The Bab Sharqi Charity Bazaar brought together participants from across Syrian society, displaying a variety of handmade goods, traditional food products and artwork, including oil paintings, abstract pieces and crafts produced using acrylic and textile techniques.
Organizers said the event seeks to create marketing opportunities for home-based businesses and small-scale producers while encouraging volunteerism and strengthening community engagement.
Sanaa Hardin, chairwoman of the Gateway of Knowledge School, which hosted the event, said educational institutions have an important role in supporting creative talent and community initiatives beyond their academic mission.
She said the school provided exhibition space and logistical support free of charge to participants, helping small producers and artisans showcase their products and generate additional income.
Several charitable organizations used the event to present their activities and products. Al-Sakhra Charity Association displayed handmade soap, candles and brocade textiles, while highlighting its programs in education, development and cultural preservation.
The Mahaba Charity Association exhibited handicrafts produced by children and young people with intellectual disabilities through vocational training programs, including sewing, embroidery and beadwork.
Organizers said the event aims to promote volunteerism, support community development and expand opportunities for small business owners, while encouraging local initiatives that contribute to social solidarity and economic resilience.
