Damascus, March 28 (SANA) – Students at Syria’s Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts presented a theatrical performance titled “This Is What Was Said” on Saturday as part of events marking World Theatre Day.
The production, performed by third-year students, drew on selected texts by Turkish writer Aziz Nesin, Syrian writer Mamdouh Hamada and American author Charles Bukowski.
Supervisors said the performance focused on narration and voice techniques, highlighting storytelling and spoken word as the central elements of the stage work.
According to organizers, the project is designed to train students in vocal performance and interpretation while exploring different literary styles, ranging from satire and social commentary to introspective narratives.
Participants said the performance reflects an effort to highlight the power of language and storytelling in theater while engaging audiences with themes related to social realities.
World Theatre Day is observed annually on March 27, a global initiative launched by the International Theatre Institute in 1961 to promote the cultural and artistic role of theater worldwide.
