Damascus, Feb. 10 (SANA) About 40 Jordanian publishing houses are participating in the Damascus International Book Fair, organizers said, marking a renewed presence at the event and highlighting cultural exchanges between Jordan and Syria.
The fair, which runs until Feb. 16, features around 500 publishers and cultural institutions from Syria and abroad. Organizers say it provides a platform for publishers to reach Syrian readers and present new titles in literature, thought, heritage and science.
Akram Salameh of Jordanian Al-Biruni Publishing and Distribution said his company is taking part for the first time in years, citing strong visitor turnout and organization at the event. He said Jordanian participation helps broaden cultural cooperation and has drawn interest from Syrian readers.
Hussam Al-Raqab of Aruqat Al-Fikr Publishing said his house focuses on supporting young writers, particularly novelists, adding that attendance at the fair reflected Syria’s long-standing literary tradition.
Bader Abu Hashish of Fada’at Publishing and Distribution, which specializes in Arabic language, literature and academic studies, said interest among young visitors has been strong, especially in literary, political and religious titles.
Participants said the fair offers an opportunity to showcase the diversity of Jordan’s publishing sector while underscoring Damascus’ historical role as a regional cultural center.
