The revitalization of economic activity in rural areas of the Syrian Arab Republic was one of the key topics at the 41st session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), which convened on Sunday in Istanbul.

The session was attended by a Syrian delegation from the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Development Fund, led by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Basel Abdel Hanan, the Ministry said in a statement.

Discussions focused on strengthening national competencies and institutional capacities to support Syria’s reconstruction efforts, emphasizing the role of human development in rebuilding the economy, fostering an investment-friendly environment, and enhancing coordination between government initiatives and international partnerships to achieve sustainable growth.

Participants reviewed post-crisis recovery experiences from countries such as Vietnam and Rwanda, which achieved rapid development through investment in human capital, institutional strengthening, and flexible policy frameworks.

Speakers highlighted Syria’s potential for recovery, citing its skilled human resources, gradually improving infrastructure, and clear national will to rebuild the economy based on productivity and equitable growth. They also stressed the importance of drawing on international expertise and the successful experiences of other OIC member states.

The session was part of a series of specialized sectoral meetings organized by COMCEC to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation among OIC member countries in the fields of development, trade, economy, and reconstruction.
