Homs, Jan. 23 (SANA) The Cultural Palace Theater in Homs hosted an event marking Circassian Heritage Day, organized by the Homs Directorate of Culture in cooperation with the Najib Foundation as part of the “Impact Makers Club” children’s activities.
The event aimed to promote Circassian cultural heritage and highlight Syria’s cultural and linguistic diversity as an integral part of the national identity.
Aya Aslim, head of the Heritage Department at the Homs Directorate of Culture, said the activities introduced children to Circassian traditions and engaged them in shared cultural memory, noting their questions and enthusiasm enriched the event.
Najib Ibrahim Asran, chairman of the foundation’s board, said the program included an exhibition of traditional foods and folk costumes, along with folklore performances, plays, stories, and proverbs in the Circassian language. He emphasized the importance of passing heritage to younger generations to strengthen cultural identity and national belonging.
Participants performed dances, shared traditional stories and songs, and presented regional dishes, including the Circassian sweet “Halaj,” prepared for special occasions.
Circassian heritage is part of Syria’s diverse cultural landscape, encompassing customs, music, clothing, and cuisine passed down through generations, and events like this help preserve and promote these traditions.
