Damascus,12. Dec (SANA) The Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums announced that precise scientific examinations conducted by specialized experts on 33 cuneiform tablets, initially believed to date back to the second millennium BC, proved that the pieces are counterfeit, despite the high quality of their attempted imitation.
The Directorate stated in a press release on Friday that this discovery comes as part of national efforts to protect and preserve Syrian heritage. It emphasized its commitment to international standards in handling antiquities and the importance of verifying the authenticity of archaeological items to ensure the credibility of scientific research and strengthen educational content with reliable information.
It explained that the examination results highlight the importance of scientific and cultural cooperation in supporting efforts to safeguard Syria’s rich history from any attempts at forgery. It noted that it will continue its work in this field to ensure the protection of Syria’s cultural identity and historical heritage.
