New York, SANA – Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Russia circulated in the UN Security Council a draft statement on the necessity to separate “opposition” from terrorists in Syria.
Russian Sputnik news agency quoted Churkin as saying that “We believe, that under these circumstances it is extremely important for the member states that influence the opposition groups in the eastern Aleppo and beyond, to intensify efforts, to separate expeditiously all moderate opposition forces from terrorist entities designated by the Security Council,” adding that Russia has prepared a draft press statement, hoping it will be approved by the members of the UN Security Council.
Churkin asserted the importance of preventing providing individuals and groups that were associated with the terrorist groups, designated by the UN Security Council, with material and financial support.
On Monday, Russia announceda humanitarian pause in Aleppo from 08:00 to 16:00 local time on October 20, halting its airstrikes so that civilians could escape the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo and aid convoys could safely get through to those who remain there.
