Moscow, SANA-Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura is hesitating with convening another round of the intra-Syrian talks as he thinks that the negotiators are not yet ready.
In an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel on Tuesday, Churkin said the United Nations is paying too much attention to “the Riyadh group” of the Syrian opposition whereas the Syrian government is ready for talks.
The UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said last week that time is not yet mature for the official third round of the intra-Syrian talks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and U.N. Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura in St Petersburg on June 16, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters earlier today.
“Topics are the fight against global terrorism and the situation in Syria,” the Kremlin official said.
