Syria and India discuss cooperation opportunities in investment sector

Damascus, SANA – Deputy Director General of Syrian Investment Agency (SIA) Inas al-Umawi discussed on Monday with Indian Ambassador in Damascus Man Mohan Bhanot investment opportunities in Syria during the reconstruction stage, and the types of investments that Indian investors want to set up in Syria.

During the meeting, al-Umawi suggested forming a joint economic commission between the two sides for studying projects and investment opportunities, as well as establishing a Syrian-Indian business council to follow up on bilateral cooperation agreements.

She pointed out to the development of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in investment, expressing her thanks for the continuous support provided by the Indian government to Syria on all levels, particularly the education sector.

Al-Umawi said that the agency is looking for new investors and partners from friendly countries and is working on activating a number of agreements and memos of understanding with these countries.

In turn, the Indian Ambassador stressed the strength of the historical relations between India and Syria, expressing readiness to exert all possible efforts to support investment cooperation between the two countries.

He said that this meeting aims at exploring investment opportunities and the legislative environment that encourage companies and businessmen to invest in Syria, adding that he will inform Indian businessmen about investment opportunities in Syria.
